Dr PS Bhandari is a distinguished plastic, reconstructive and peripheral-nerve surgeon, academically grounded with qualifications including MS (General Surgery) and MCh (Plastic Surgery).  Over his career, he has served as Professor and Head of Plastic Surgery at major institutions in India.

In his academic role, Dr Bhandari has been a teacher and examiner for postgraduate surgical training. He has supervised and evaluated candidates for MCh (Plastic Surgery) and DNB (Plastic Surgery). He has also served as external examiner and expert assessor for MCh/DNB programs at various medical colleges across India.

Dr Bhandari’s scholarly contributions include over 105 scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals — among them the Journal of Hand Surgery (American volume) and the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine — largely focusing on brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, microsurgical reconstruction, and nerve repair.

Beyond research and publications, he has demonstrated academic leadership through multiple professional roles: he has been past President of the Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery,  President of the Brachial Plexus Surgery Group of India, executive member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI), and has served on editorial boards for the Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery and Indian Journal of Neurotrauma. He is the founder editor of Journal of Peripheral Nerve Surgery (JPNS).

Through combining surgical practice, academic mentorship, research and leadership in professional societies, Dr. Bhandari has played a key role in advancing plastic-reconstructive and peripheral-nerve surgery education and standards in India — particularly in microsurgery and brachial-plexus/peripheral-nerve injury rehabilitation.In addition to research, Dr Bhandari has been deeply involved in academic mentorship. He has guided numerous postgraduate and doctoral scholars from across the globe, fostering a culture of critical thinking, rigorous methodology, and intellectual curiousity.Dr PS Bhandari continues to inspire colleagues and students alike, leaving a lasting impact on the academic community through his research, mentorship, and leadership.
